Ladies and Gentlemen,
Tonight I’m going to tell you how I raised the most important question in life, the very question that turned my life upside down. This very important question could be yours to ask tonight.
Back in a decade ago, when I was an university student, around me there were lots of Christians. They were my friends but to me they were somehow bizarre, as they always sought help from the so called “super-nature” God no matter what happened.
I always reckoned that these believers were a butch of lazy, low EQ creatures who were too weak to confront any challenges they faced. So to me at that point, believers of Christ were a group of dependent failures.
I did not change my view to them until the interview with my 1st employer. During the interview, there sat a sophisticated lady in her 50s asked me surprisingly personal questions like “Do you have any religion?” “Does your family have the tradition of worshipping Buddha?” As a humble fresh gradate, I would answer any question that the interviewer throw at me. So, I honestly told her that I didn't have any religion.
After the interview, I received the employment offer from her. During the time with her, I was amazed by her ability, exposures and her social circles. She opened my eyes, people around her were the knowledgeable professions like judges, lawyers, accountants, doctors, business men and even tycoons who were with very high influential power to the society. Yet these powerful people were Christian and willing to humble themselves in front of the so called the Almighty God, Jesus Christ.
This really hit me, because I always thought Christians were the weak creatures with no brain.
In one afternoon, my boss shared her heart with me, she said to me that she had gone through lots of things in life, as a typical Hong Kong person, she always calculated and measured the cost and benefit for any decision she made, she only did things that she thought was the best.
But eventually after 40 years of hard effort, the ultimate rewards she received did not bring her any happiness or satisfaction.
She said to me “why don't you seize your days in your early 20s and select the best for your life now, that is to walk with God, to open your heart and have a relation with him, God will direct you to the best, you don’t need to waste the effort like me, in walking in circles and seeking things that won’t ultimately bring any good to your life.”
In considering her sincerity and social circle she was with, I whispered to myself, “hey there’s nothing to loss, if the God she mentioned is true then I would receive all the benefits, but if not, I just turn away and do whatever I used to and loss nothing.
So I made the bet, and asked God the very important question, "if you really are the almighty god who loves me, let me experience you and I’ll make a relation with you."
Once this bet is made, God turned my life in 180 degree. He let me experienced his existence and love. He is involved in my life even in the littlest thing. He taught me that relationship was built by love not mutual exploitation. He led me solidly experience and know humans were the composition of body, spirit and soul.
From that conversation with God onwards and until today I still know I am graciously led by Jesus. No matter what happen in my life, he is still walking along with me, blessing me.
So I dare you tonight, don’t miss out the good thing, begin the conversation, ask God question, then you will see his existence and his love. Yes, Jesus is waiting for you and longing to build a relation with you.
As the bible says in Mathew 7:7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Thank you.
